Village Centre
Churt’s village centre, bisected by the A287, can be a busy place, especially at school drop off and pick up times. The Parish Council keeps in touch with local businesses and addresses any general problems relating to the centre of the village.
On the four corners of Crossways, where Hale House Lane and Barford Lane from a crossroads with the A287, are St John’s Infant School, the Crossways village pub, the Yeomans Honda car showrooms selling new and used cars and the parade of village shops. The Crossways Inn, with both indoor and outdoor seating is an award winning pub which prides itself on being one of the best real ale pubs in the area. Teresa has been running the pub since 1994 and has built a community rather than just having regular customers.
Crossing over Hale House Lane from the pub leads to the Property Partnership, an independent estate agency, with the SPAR store next in line. Churt is lucky to have the SPAR convenience store which stocks a wide range of groceries, vegetables, fresh bread, wine and beer and frozen ready meals, as well as being a newsagent and post office. Next to the Spar is Pipasha, the neighbourhood’s favourite Indian restaurant, where you can enjoy a meal in the restaurant or collect a takeaway. The parade of shops continues with the renowned Miscellanea, an emporium of bespoke interior design, a vast collection of unique sculptures, bespoke furniture, glassware, paintings and prints, ceramics, lighting, textiles, tiles – everything to make a home complete. Churt is a village of many gardens, some of them very large, so it is very useful to have a garden machinery shop in the village, which also does repairs. Our parade of shops ends with the popular Barber Shop, which always scores highly in customer reviews, where Nicky will cut ladies’ and children’s hair too.
At the northern side of the village is the Lindsey Clark Brothers Landscape Centre, a family-run business of over 55 years standing in Churt. They are a leading supplier of landscaping and building materials which cater for trade and retail customers in Surrey, Hampshire and the surrounding areas.
A seasonal role for the ParishCcouncil is to put up the Christmas lights, with the help of the village centre businesses.
