Roads and Transport
The Parish Council’s Roads and Transport portfolio involves working with both Waverley Borough Council and Surrey County Council, as well as with our local residents, on any matter relating to roads, public transport, walking and cycling.
Road Safety
One of our continuing priorities is road safety, in particular in the centre of the village and outside the local school.
In early 2024 we undertook a survey of village residents and visitors to understand their views towards introducing a 20mph speed limit in the village. Around four in five respondents supported the introduction of a slower speed limit in the village, and these findings have been shared with Waverley Borough and Surrey County Councils. We continue to support the school staff and parents in making it safer for children to walk to school in the village, including from the nearby recreation ground.

Sustainable Transport
We would like to make it easier for Churt residents to choose to use sustainable transport, and help us reach our ambitious net zero targets. We have worked with Waverley Borough Council to provide input to Surrey’s Local Cycling and Walking Implementation Plan (LCWIP) and in particular would like to see a continuous footpath introduced between the village and Beacon Hill and Hindhead.
We also want to see better public transport services in the village. We are fortunate to be served by the 19 bus service between Aldershot and Haslemere, serving both Farnham and Haslemere train stations. We have recently secured new bus stops for the village at Green Lane, to make it easier for the drivers to see where passengers want to disembark! We know that the absence of an evening service, or Sunday service, is a barrier for residents and we will work to support additional service.

Road Surfaces
We know village residents are concerned about the state of road surfaces; we work hard on a regular basis to get the work that is needed in Churt (and its immediate vicinity) onto Surrey County Council’s scheduled work list. We were delighted to finally see the A287 resurfaced between Jumps Road and Pond Lane in 2023. You may find it useful to check out SCC’s weekly list of roadworks in Waverley. Surrey also has an interactive roadworks map where you can check out roadworks scheduled from two weeks up to twelve months ahead.
