Churt Recreation Ground
Churt Recreation Ground, a war memorial to the fallen of World War I was the outcome of an appeal to Churt inhabitants and was opened in 1921. It is a Charitable Trust which is managed by Churt Parish Council and monthly meetings of the Churt Recreation Ground Trust follow every meeting of the Churt Parish Council.
Today, the Recreation Ground with its Pavilion is home to several village sports clubs. The summer sees Churt and Hindhead Cricket Club matches, practices and coaching sessions in full swing, whilst in winter, football takes over. Both cricket and football have very active junior sections covering wide age ranges. Churt Tennis Club, with two tennis courts and their own small pavilion occupies the west side of the Recreation Ground. At all times of day and at weekends and in the school holidays, the Children’s Playground is put through its paces.
Parking is limited and is primarily for users of the Recreation Ground and Pavilion. When these facilities are being used by one or more teams for sports events, especially at the weekends, parking can become difficult. There is overflow parking immediately in front of the Church on Redhearn Green with easy access to the Recreation Ground through the grounds of Churt Club. We ask anyone wishing to park all day in Churt, or when the Recreation Ground car park spaces are full, to use the overflow car park which is only a short distance away. However, please note that overnight parking is not permitted in the overflow car parking.
For much of the week however, the Recreation Ground is a quiet haven in the middle of the village where you can walk, exercise the dog or just sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the treescape. It is important to keep the general environment clean and tidy and any help by placing rubbish in the bins provided is gratefully accepted. We particularly ask that dogwalkers clean up after their dogs, using the bins provided for that purpose.
