Freedom of the Parish of Churt Award

The Local Government Act 1972 allows Parish Councils to grant the title of Honorary Freeman or Freewoman of a Parish in recognition of the eminent services rendered by an individual to the community. Granting the Freedom of the Parish is the highest honour that the Parish Council can bestow. Although it carries no powers, rights or privileges, those who receive the honour are able to use the title of Freeman or Freewoman.

Since 2021 we have awarded the Freedom of the Parish to a number of residents to recognise their contribution to making the village a great place to live, in an entirely voluntary capacity. The award is not intended for individuals who have profited from their service; particular consideration will be given to “unsung heroes”.
